HYPE Inflation Analysis · October 2026 · Supply growing · projected to keep growing

HYPE is inflationary on its traded float: supply grew +1.46% in the 90 days from Jul 23 to Oct 21 2026, and we expect about +1.36% in the next 90 days. Hyperliquid added 5.47M HYPE to the market, mostly monthly team payouts and staking pay, while its fee buyback fund and gas burn took 2.22M HYPE back out. HYPE has a hard cap of 1B coins, and only about 23% of them circulate today, so the team and reserve wallets set the pace.

The verdict, in one paragraph

Over the last 90 days the circulating supply of HYPE grew by +1.46%, from new coins of 5.47M HYPE against removals of 2.22M HYPE, on a float of 222.45M HYPE. Other trackers show only +0.02% for the same days, a gap of 1.45 points, so the page carries a warning chip. The reason is simple: the supply figure they use has stayed at 222.45M HYPE since May 26 2026 and does not move when the team pays out or the buyback fund buys. On-chain, both of those happened every month. For the next 90 days we expect 5.52M HYPE in and 2.50M HYPE out, or +1.36%. HYPE is a fee-buyback token that is still inflationary while its team stake unlocks.

Sell pressure: where new HYPE comes from

Protocol inflation added about 754K HYPE. Hyperliquid pays stakers from a reserve set aside at launch, at roughly 2.2% a year on the 442M HYPE staked, which is about 27,000 HYPE a day in total. Most of that pay lands on the team, Foundation and grants stakes, which do not count as circulating, so only the share earned by outside stakers reaches the market. The rate falls slowly as more HYPE is staked, because Hyperliquid scales staking pay to the square root of the total stake.

Vesting unlocks were the biggest source: 4.62M HYPE. The core-contributor wallet holds 238.06M HYPE, all of it staked, and pays out once a month after a seven-day unstaking wait. It paid 433,025 HYPE on Aug 5, 433,416 HYPE on Sep 6 and 3.75M HYPE on Oct 7 2026. The October payout was sold in one private deal to a single institution, so it never touched the public order book, but those coins still joined the float. Unlock calendars show about 9.92M HYPE a month for the team; what actually left the wallet was far less, and only what leaves the wallet reaches the market.

Foundation and unscheduled unlocks added 103K HYPE. The Hyper Foundation sent 100,000 HYPE out of its wallet in two equal transfers on Aug 4 and Aug 31 2026, and the community grants wallet paid 3,000 HYPE in small grants. Long-term locked or bankruptcy supply is 0: HYPE launched on Nov 29 2024 and has no court-held estate or legal lockup waiting to be released.

Buy pressure: where new HYPE goes

The programmatic buyback removed 2.18M HYPE. Almost every trading fee on Hyperliquid flows to the Assistance Fund, a system wallet with no private key that buys HYPE on the spot market around the clock. Its balance rose from 45.98M to 48.16M HYPE between Jul 23 and Oct 21 2026, about 24,000 HYPE a day. The fund can never send coins out, and Hyperliquid validators voted in December 2025 to treat its HYPE as burned. Since Oct 4 2026 the fund also receives most of the interest earned on the dollar reserves behind the exchange: the first payment was $14.58M, and more are due every 30 days.

The protocol fee burn removed 35.4K HYPE. Every gas fee on the HyperEVM, Hyperliquid’s smart-contract side, is destroyed, tips included. Listing fees paid on the trading chain also burn a little HYPE, but we have only measured that over minutes, so we do not count it yet. A Foundation buy is 0: the Foundation does not buy HYPE. Treasury companies such as Hyperliquid Strategies, now at about 38.7M HYPE, and the US funds buy coins that already circulate. A new long-term lock is also 0, because staked HYPE still counts as circulating, including the 500,000-HYPE stakes that builders must post to launch their own markets.

Foundation and overhang

Five wallets hold the HYPE that could still reach the market. The launch reserve holds 410.56M HYPE and today only pays stakers. The core-contributor wallet holds 238.06M HYPE and pays out monthly. The Hyper Foundation holds 60.59M HYPE, almost all of it staked with its own validators. The community grants wallet holds 2.98M HYPE. The Assistance Fund holds 48.18M HYPE and has never sent a coin out. Together that is about 760M HYPE outside the float, more than three times the HYPE that circulates.

If any of these balances starts to fall, those coins join the market and the sell side grows. A large move from the reserve or the team wallet would show up as a dated event on this page before it lands.

How HYPE compares to other exchange tokens with buybacks

HYPE belongs to the group of exchange tokens that turn trading fees into buying. Most of that group, like the big centralized-exchange coins, buys or burns on a quarterly schedule set by the company. Hyperliquid’s buyback is written into the chain itself: the Assistance Fund buys every few seconds, and nobody can pause it or spend the coins. That makes the buy side of HYPE unusually steady, and it grows or shrinks with trading volume rather than a board decision.

The sell side is where HYPE differs. Exchange coins that launched years ago are mostly fully unlocked, so their supply only moves with the burn. HYPE is less than two years old: the team stake started paying out in late 2025 and the reserve still pays stakers, so new coins keep arriving every month. Compared with proof-of-stake chains that print 5% or more a year for stakers, HYPE’s staking pay is small. Compared with fixed-supply tokens that have already vested, HYPE still carries a large team stake that can come out faster or slower.

In short, HYPE has one of the strongest built-in buybacks in crypto, but for now the monthly team payouts are larger. The balance can flip if trading volume climbs or if the team keeps its payouts as small as it did in August and September.

What to watch in the next 90 days

Nov 6 2026, Dec 6 2026 and Jan 6 2027: the next monthly team payouts. The last three ranged from 433,025 to 3.75M HYPE, so their size moves the next 90-day number more than anything else.

Around Nov 3, Dec 3 2026 and Jan 2 2027: the next reserve-interest payments to the Assistance Fund. If each matches the first $14.58M, they buy about 181,000 HYPE apiece.

Trading volume: the buyback runs at about 21,000 to 24,000 HYPE a day. A busy month on Hyperliquid lifts it, and a quiet one cuts it.

Permissionless prediction markets: Hyperliquid plans to let anyone launch outcome markets against a 500,000-HYPE stake. That adds fee income for the buyback, but no date has been set.

Summary

Hyperliquid’s HYPE grew +1.46% in the 90 days to Oct 21 2026 and should grow about +1.36% in the next 90 days. Monthly team payouts of 4.62M HYPE and staking pay of 754K HYPE outran a fee buyback of 2.18M HYPE that can never be sold. The key risk is the size of each team payout, which the team decides month by month. The cap is fixed at 1B HYPE, and about 760M HYPE still sits outside the float.
