ETHFI supply is growing, and the reason is one vesting schedule rather than any minting. Over the 90 days to Oct 16 2026, the ether.fi core-contributor grant released 26.84M ETHFI into the market while nothing was burned or locked away, so net supply rose +2.78%, and the MrNasDog Pressure Framework projects the same +2.78% for the next 90 days. The ETHFI token has no mint function, so the pressure ends when the last grant part unlocks on Mar 18 2027.

The verdict, in one paragraph

Our ledger reads +2.78% net new ETHFI supply over the last 90 days and +2.78% for the next 90. The monitor reads +4.09% for its own 90-day window, a gap of 1.31 percentage points, which is more than our 0.5-point limit, so the page carries a ⚠ monitor-gap note. We walked five kinds of sources to explain it: the circulating count the monitor reads jumped about 44.3M ETHFI on Jul 17 2026 and 45.1M on Aug 17 2026, briefly above the 998.54M ETHFI that exist, then was cut back on Aug 27 2026. No on-chain flow matches those jumps, so our number stays. In one line: ETHFI is a fixed-supply governance token with one team grant still unlocking.

Sell pressure: where new ETHFI comes from

Protocol inflation is 0. All 1B ETHFI were created at launch in February 2024, the token contract has no mint function, and on-chain supply read 998,535,999 ETHFI at both ends of the window, after 1,464,001 ETHFI were burned in earlier buybacks.

Vesting unlocks are the whole sell side: 26.84M ETHFI in the last 90 days and 26.84M ETHFI in the next 90. The ether.fi core contributors hold a grant of 214.7M ETHFI that vests over three years with a one-year cliff. After the cliff it releases in 24 equal monthly parts of about 8.95M ETHFI on the 18th of each month. The investor grant, which shared the same cliff, was paid out the same way, in 12 equal monthly parts that ended on Mar 18 2026. Jul 18, Aug 18 and Sep 18 2026 fell inside our window; Oct 18, Nov 18 and Dec 18 2026 fall inside the next one. About 53.7M ETHFI of the grant is still locked.

Foundation and unscheduled unlocks are 0. The ether.fi Foundation holds large treasury balances and moved some of them in this window, but only 33.19M ETHFI is held out of the circulating count, which matches the grant still to unlock, so the treasury already counts as circulating and spending it adds no new supply. Long-term locked or bankruptcy supply is also 0: no estate, trustee or long lock holds ETHFI.

Buy pressure: where new ETHFI goes

The programmatic buyback books 0, even though it is real. Since Sep 9 2026, after a governance vote that closed Sep 3 2026, ether.fi has sent app revenue in dollars to a buyback wallet every week, between $225K and $305K, and that wallet buys ETHFI in hundreds of small orders. It bought about 1.51M ETHFI for about $1.16M by Oct 16 2026, and passed 1.47M of it on to user-reward wallets. Those coins go back to ether.fi card users as cashback or stay with the Foundation, so they never leave the market.

The protocol fee burn is 0: ether.fi fees are not burned, supply did not move, and the dead-address balance stayed at 0.66 ETHFI. The Foundation buy row is 0 as well. A $50M Foundation buyback voted in November 2025, for prices under $3, is still allowed, and in this window a Foundation wallet took 5.0M ETHFI out of an exchange and bought about 1.05M on a DEX, but it keeps or pays out those coins. New long-term locks are 0: staked ETHFI rose from 103.39M to 109.75M as users stake for card membership perks, but staked ETHFI can be withdrawn and still counts as circulating.

Foundation and overhang

The largest overhang is the ether.fi treasury Safe, which holds 153.2M ETHFI, down from 173.2M at the start of the window. On Oct 4 2026 it sent 20M ETHFI to a second Safe that tops up user rewards when bought coins run short, as the Sep 3 2026 vote allowed; that Safe now holds about 20.0M ETHFI. A second treasury wallet holds 12.88M, the Foundation operating wallet 1.76M, and the buyback wallet about 40K. About 11M ETHFI was lent to market makers in 2025 under loans of one to one and a half years.

The core-contributor grant itself sits in about 30 holder wallets that together hold about 151.1M ETHFI; they sent out 7.17M ETHFI in these 90 days. We read every one of these balances on-chain at each rebuild. If any of these balances falls between refreshes, the outflow enters Sell #3 at the next refresh.

How ETHFI compares to other DeFi governance tokens

ETHFI belongs to the class of fixed-supply DeFi governance tokens whose only new supply is a team and investor vesting schedule. That makes it different from uncapped staking-reward chains, where new coins are printed every block forever. For ETHFI the pressure has an end date: once the core-contributor grant finishes in March 2027, the sell side falls to zero unless the Foundation starts selling its treasury.

It also differs from DeFi tokens that burn what they buy back. Some exchange and perpetual-DEX tokens send repurchased coins to a dead address, which shrinks supply. ether.fi chose to spend its buybacks on rewards for card users and stakers, and to hold the rest in a Foundation wallet. That supports the price by creating steady buying, but it does not reduce the float, so the buy side of our ledger stays at zero while the grant is still unlocking.

Compared with liquid-staking rivals that pay their stakers in newly minted tokens, ETHFI pays staking and membership rewards from coins bought on the market or from the existing treasury. That keeps the token free of inflation from rewards, at the cost of a treasury that shrinks over time.

What to watch in the next 90 days

The core-contributor grant releases about 8.95M ETHFI on each of Oct 18 2026, Nov 18 2026 and Dec 18 2026; the next part after that is Jan 18 2027.

The weekly buyback: if ether.fi starts burning or locking the bought ETHFI instead of paying it out as rewards, the buy side of the ledger would start to count it.

The 20M ETHFI rewards Safe: how fast it is drawn down shows whether bought coins cover user rewards or the Foundation is topping them up from its treasury.

The circulating count the monitor reads has not moved since Aug 27 2026; a catch-up step when it next updates would close part of the gap.

Summary

ETHFI, the governance token of ether.fi, has a fixed supply of 998,535,999 coins and no way to mint more, yet its circulating supply grows by about +2.78% every 90 days because the core-contributor grant releases about 8.95M ETHFI each month. Weekly buybacks funded by ether.fi revenue are real but book nothing on our ledger, because the bought coins go to card users and the Foundation instead of being burned. The key risk is the remaining 53.7M ETHFI of the grant and the large Foundation treasury; the ceiling is clear, since the grant ends on Mar 18 2027 and no new ETHFI can ever be created.
