DOGE Inflation Analysis · October 2026 · Supply growing · projected to keep growing
Dogecoin (DOGE) is inflationary by design. Every Dogecoin block pays its miner a flat 10,000 DOGE, and between Jul 23 and Oct 21 2026 that block reward created 1.23B new DOGE, while nothing was burned, bought back or locked. Net supply grew +0.78% in 90 days and is set to grow about the same in the next 90 days. Dogecoin has no supply cap and no halving, so the new DOGE never stops; it only shrinks as a share of a supply that keeps getting bigger.
The verdict, in one paragraph
Over the 90 days to Oct 21 2026, DOGE supply grew a net +0.78% (1.23B new DOGE against 156.41B DOGE in circulation), and the next 90 days are projected at the same +0.78%. Other supply trackers show +0.79% for the same 90 days, a difference of just 0.01 points, so the two readings agree and no warning flag is shown. In a year the Dogecoin block reward adds about 4.98B DOGE, roughly 3.2% of today’s supply. Label: a fixed-reward proof-of-work coin with steady, uncapped inflation and nothing on the buy side.
Sell pressure: where new DOGE comes from
Protocol inflation is the only source of new DOGE: 1.23B DOGE in 90 days. Dogecoin is a scrypt proof-of-work chain, merge-mined with Litecoin, and every block it has made since block 600,000 in 2015 pays exactly 10,000 DOGE to the miner who finds it. Between Jul 23 and Oct 21 2026 the network produced 122,741 blocks, one every 63.35 seconds on average instead of the 60-second target, so the window paid out 1,227,410,000 DOGE, about 13.6M DOGE a day. Because the reward is paid per block, a slower chain means fewer new coins than the round 1.30B a perfect one-minute pace would give. The software has not changed since Dogecoin Core 1.14.9 shipped in December 2024, so the same reward runs into the next 90 days: another 1.23B DOGE.
Vesting unlocks are zero. Dogecoin launched in December 2013 as a fair launch, with no presale, no team allocation and no investor share, so there is no vesting calendar and no unlock cliff. Every DOGE that exists came out of a mined block.
Foundation and unscheduled unlocks are zero. The only Dogecoin wallet with a written payout rule is the developer fund, which holds about 5.0M DOGE and pays 500K DOGE to credited contributors each time a new Dogecoin Core version is released. No version has shipped since December 2024 and none has a release date, so no payout is booked for the next 90 days.
Long-term locked or bankruptcy supply is zero. No bankruptcy estate, court order or long lock holds DOGE waiting to be released. Coins held by companies, funds and exchanges already circulate.
Buy pressure: where new DOGE goes
Programmatic buyback: zero. Dogecoin has no protocol revenue and no contract or treasury that buys DOGE off the market for the network.
Protocol fee burn: zero. Unlike chains with a base-fee burn, Dogecoin gives every transaction fee to the miner. Users paid about 795.5K DOGE in fees over the 90 days, and all of it stayed in circulation. The old unspendable burn address took in only about 10 DOGE in the window, too small to count.
Foundation buy: zero. The Dogecoin Foundation does not run a buying programme. Listed treasury companies and spot DOGE funds buy and sell coins that already circulate, so their trades move DOGE between holders without changing supply. One treasury company sold its whole DOGE pile in August 2026, and one small spot fund stopped trading on Oct 14 2026 and pays its holders in cash around Oct 22 2026; neither changes the count.
New long-term lock: zero. Dogecoin has no staking and no lock contract, so no DOGE is taken off the market for a set time.
Foundation and overhang
Dogecoin’s team-controlled overhang is small. The developer fund, a shared-signature wallet run by Core developers and the Foundation, holds about 5.0M DOGE, unchanged through the window; it pays out only with a qualifying Dogecoin Core release, and we re-read its balance at every rebuild. The Foundation’s business arm, now a Nasdaq-listed company, and its new product company Dogecoin Labs, launched on Oct 21 2026, have no locked DOGE: any coins they hold already count as circulating, so a sale from them would not add new supply. If the developer fund’s balance falls between checks, that outflow enters the Foundation and unscheduled unlocks row at the next check.
How DOGE compares to other proof-of-work chains
DOGE vs Bitcoin (BTC): both are proof-of-work coins whose new supply goes to miners, but Bitcoin halves its block reward about every four years and stops at 21M coins. Dogecoin removed its halvings in 2015 and fixed the reward at 10,000 DOGE forever, so it has no cap. Bitcoin’s inflation keeps stepping down at each halving; Dogecoin’s only falls slowly, as the same yearly 4.98B DOGE becomes a smaller share of a growing supply.
DOGE vs Litecoin (LTC): Dogecoin is merge-mined with Litecoin, so the same miners secure both chains. Litecoin keeps a halving schedule and an 84M cap; Dogecoin keeps a flat reward and no cap. Neither burns fees, so in both the full block reward reaches the market.
DOGE vs tail-emission and burn chains: Monero also pays a fixed reward forever, but its tail is tiny next to its supply. Ethereum pays new coins too, yet burns part of every fee. Dogecoin has neither a small tail nor a burn: it is one of the few large coins whose whole supply story is a single fixed mint with nothing on the buy side.
What to watch in the next 90 days
The next Dogecoin Core release. Developers asked the community to help test the next Core version in September 2026; when it ships, the developer fund pays out 500K DOGE, a small one-off sell-side item.
Talk of a smaller block reward. Some holders keep pushing to cut the reward from 10,000 to 1,000 DOGE a block. As of Oct 21 2026 there is no code, no release and no activation date; only a shipped change adopted by miners would move this reading.
Block speed. The chain ran at about 63 seconds a block in this window. A faster pace means more new DOGE, a slower pace less; we re-measure it at every check.
Dogecoin Labs and DogeOS. The new company launched on Oct 21 2026 to build payments and apps, and the DogeOS app platform opened a public test network on Sep 30 2026. Neither mints or burns DOGE on the main chain, so neither changes the supply count unless a burn or lock is added.
Summary
Dogecoin (DOGE) grows its supply by about +0.78% every 90 days, entirely from a flat 10,000 DOGE block reward that paid miners 1.23B DOGE between Jul 23 and Oct 21 2026. Nothing works against it: no fee burn, no buyback, no staking lock and no vesting. The main risk for holders is that this steady mint, about 4.98B DOGE a year, must be bought by new demand just to keep the price still. There is no cap; only a software change adopted by miners could slow it, and none is scheduled.
