➜ Start with the Cronos coin page for the short answer (should you buy CRO?) and its price drivers: mrnasdog.com/research/cro

Cronos (CRO) supply is growing fast: +6.82% over the 90 days from Jul 25 to Oct 23 2026, and about +7.20% over the next 90 days. Almost all of it comes from the Cronos Strategic Reserve, a 70B CRO pot re-created by a 2025 vote that unlocks 1.17B CRO every month: 3.50B CRO left it in the window. Stakers were paid 186.83M CRO of new coins, and one community burn destroyed 228M CRO. CRO has a hard cap of 100B, but 47.83B CRO is still locked in the reserve and keeps unlocking until Mar 17 2030.

The verdict, in one paragraph

Over the last 90 days the circulating supply of CRO rose by about 3.46B CRO to 50.74B CRO, a net +6.82%. Our projection for the next 90 days is +7.20%: three more reserve unlocks are already dated, the staking mint keeps shrinking, and no burn is scheduled. Other trackers show +7.29% for the same 90 days, a gap of 0.47 points, so the two readings agree and the coin page carries no warning note. CRO is inflationary by schedule: a monthly reserve unlock, not trading or staking, sets the pace of new supply.

Sell pressure: where new CRO comes from

The biggest source is vesting. The Cronos Strategic Reserve holds the 70B CRO that was burned in 2021 and re-issued after a March 2025 governance vote. It sits in one on-chain vesting account that opens 1.17B CRO on a fixed beat of 60 monthly steps, from Apr 2025 to Mar 17 2030. Three steps fell in this window, on Aug 17, Sep 16 and Oct 17 2026, so the Vesting unlocks row carries 3.50B CRO. The team moved each step out of the reserve within days, to its payout wallet on Aug 18, Sep 30 and Oct 21 2026, so what the schedule promised is exactly what reached the market count.

Protocol inflation is the second source. Stakers on the Cronos POS chain are paid in newly minted CRO, and the chain minted 186.83M CRO in the window, about 2.08M a day. Since the v7 upgrade of May 20 2026 the mint rate decays 6.8% every month on its way toward zero: it was 0.86% a year when the window opened and 0.70% at its close. Because that decay is written into the chain, we project 152.46M CRO for the next 90 days rather than repeating the last 90.

Foundation and unscheduled unlocks are zero. The coins already opened from the reserve sit in team wallets that count as circulating, so when the team spends or moves them no new supply appears. The long-term locked or bankruptcy row is zero too: no court or bankruptcy estate holds CRO, and the only long lock is the reserve itself, counted under vesting.

Buy pressure: where new CRO goes

The protocol fee burn row holds the one real removal. A share of every mint flows to the Cronos POS community pool, and holders vote from time to time to send the pool to a burn address no one controls. The fifth such vote ended on Oct 3 2026 and burned 228M CRO, the largest community burn so far, bringing the total ever burned to 428M CRO. The pool now holds only about 13M CRO and no new burn vote is open, so we book nothing for the next 90 days.

The programmatic buyback row is zero for now. In a second vote that also ended on Oct 3 2026, holders backed a plan for all revenue from the Ult trading app and Cronos Launch to buy CRO on the open market and burn it every month, with each transaction published. The buy-and-burn contract is still in development and no revenue figure has been published, so no CRO has been bought back yet. Foundation buy is zero: no team or company buys CRO back for the network, and a planned listed CRO treasury company was called off on Aug 7 2026. New long-term lock is zero as well: about 14.48B CRO is staked, including the new 1-, 2- and 4-year bonus locks, but staked CRO still counts as circulating.

Foundation and overhang

The largest overhang is the reserve itself: 47.83B CRO still locked, opening 1.17B CRO a month, with the next steps on Nov 16 2026, Dec 16 2026 and Jan 16 2027. Behind it sit the coins the team has already taken out. The main payout wallet holds about 13.78B CRO, up 3.00B in the window after receiving 3.50B and passing 500M on; an older payout wallet holds 5.83B CRO and has not moved since 2025. A staking-bonus pot holds about 44.95M CRO and pays the new lock rewards. The team has said released reserve coins will fund staking rewards as the mint decays and pay for growth, so these wallets are where the real selling would come from. We read every one of them from the chain each day; if any of these balances falls between checks, the outflow is booked under foundation and unscheduled unlocks at the next check.

How CRO compares to other exchange-chain tokens

CRO belongs to the family of coins tied to a big exchange, and the contrast with its peers is about mechanism, not price. BNB has no new issuance and removes coins every quarter through a large scheduled auto-burn, so its supply shrinks. CRO runs the other way: a scheduled monthly unlock adds about 2.3% of circulating supply each month, and its burns are irregular votes on a small pool. Where BNB’s burn is the engine, CRO’s reserve is.

Against proof-of-stake Layer 1 chains, CRO’s staking mint is now small and falling: 0.70% a year and decaying toward zero, well below the usual 3% to 7% of chains that pay stakers only with new coins. The difference is that those chains have no 47.83B coin reserve still to open. CRO’s supply story is closer to a token with a long team vesting calendar than to a classic staking chain, and the revenue buy-and-burn, once it starts, is the only piece that could tilt it the other way.

What to watch in the next 90 days

The reserve unlocks of Nov 16 2026, Dec 16 2026 and Jan 16 2027, each 1.17B CRO, are the dated events that drive the projection. The first monthly buy-and-burn from Ult and Cronos Launch revenue would be the first real buyback; until its contract goes live and revenue is published, it books nothing. A new community burn vote would add to the burn row, but the pool is small after the Oct 3 2026 burn. Watch the team payout wallets too: large moves to exchanges would show where the released reserve coins go. And watch the staking mint, which keeps shrinking 6.8% a month unless a vote changes the decay.

Summary

Cronos supply grew +6.82% over the 90 days to Oct 23 2026 and is set to grow about +7.20% over the next 90 days. The Strategic Reserve released 3.50B CRO and stakers received 186.83M CRO, while a single community burn destroyed 228M CRO. The key risk is the reserve’s steady 1.17B CRO a month, with 47.83B CRO still to come before Mar 17 2030; the upside case is a revenue-funded monthly buy-and-burn that grows large enough to matter. Under the 100B hard cap, CRO will keep inflating on schedule until the reserve is empty.
