BTT Inflation Analysis · October 2026 · Supply shrinking · projected to keep shrinking

BitTorrent (BTT) is shrinking. The token contract holds a fixed 990 trillion BTT and makes no new coins, and on Oct 16 2026 BitTorrent’s first revenue buyback burned 21,621.6B BTT, worth about $7.6M. Against 965.42T BTT in circulation, BTT supply fell 2.24% over the last 90 days, and a second quarterly burn due in mid-January 2027 points to about 2.22% less over the next 90 days.

The verdict, in one paragraph

Over the 90 days to Oct 18 2026, BTT added 0 new coins to the market and burned 21,621.6B BTT, a net change of −2.24% of circulating supply. Our inflation monitor, which tracks the circulating figure day by day, reads −2.17% for the same 90 days, a gap of only 0.07 percentage points, so the two readings agree and no data-conflict warning is needed. For the next 90 days we expect −2.22%, because the BitTorrent buyback burns once a quarter and the next burn falls in mid-January. In one line: BTT is a fixed-supply token that has turned deflationary through a revenue-funded buyback and burn.

Sell pressure: where new BTT comes from

Protocol inflation is 0. The BTT contract on TRON was created with all 990 trillion coins and has no way to make more. The BitTorrent Chain (BTTC) pays its stakers about 6.8% a year on 44.77T staked BTT, roughly 755B BTT a quarter, but that pay comes from coins already counted as circulating, so it moves BTT between holders rather than adding new supply.

Vesting unlocks are 0 in both windows. BitTorrent published a release table in November 2024: what was left of the old allocation is freed in yearly batches of 984.7B BTT until the last one in 2029. All of it sits in one release wallet holding 3,938.9B BTT, which has not moved since it paid out the 2025 batch on Jan 30 2025. The 2026 batch is already counted as circulating even though it never left that wallet, so if it moves now it adds nothing new. The 2027 batch has no published date; going by the January 30 timing of the last move, we expect it after this window closes on Jan 16 2027.

Foundation and unscheduled unlocks are 0. Large team-linked wallets exist, but every one of them is already inside the circulating count, so a sale from them would change hands, not supply. Long-term locks and bankruptcy releases are also 0: no estate, trustee or long lock holds BTT.

Buy pressure: where new BTT goes

The programmatic buyback is the whole story. On Jul 6 2026 BitTorrent said it would spend all revenue from its decentralized services, such as the paid BitTorrent apps and its new compute network, on buying BTT from the market each quarter and burning it. The first burn arrived on Oct 16 2026: 21,621.6B BTT, about 2.2% of circulating supply, sent in one transfer to the TRON burn address. The coins were bought on exchanges, so they came out of the float and left it for good. At today’s price the same $7.6M would buy about 21,441.3B BTT in the October to December round, which BitTorrent says it will report in the middle of January.

The protocol fee burn is 0: BitTorrent Chain blocks do not burn a base fee, and fees go to validators. Apart from the buyback burn, nothing else reached the burn address in the window. Foundation buying is 0, and new long-term locks are 0, because staked BTT still counts as circulating.

Foundation and overhang

The release wallet is the one real overhang outside the float: about 2,954.1B BTT of its 3,938.9B is still waiting for the 2027, 2028 and 2029 batches. Inside the float, we watch several team-linked wallets: one holding about 112.6T BTT that has not moved, one holding 52.46T BTT that sent out 212B on Aug 19 2026, and one holding 8.90T BTT swept from the closed BTTC bridge, unmoved this window. The staking contract on TRON holds about 23.07T BTT, and the buyback wallet was empty after the October burn. We re-read these balances at every rebuild; if the release wallet’s balance falls between refreshes, the outflow enters the foundation and unscheduled unlocks row at the next refresh.

How BTT compares to other revenue-buyback tokens

Most tokens that shrink do it through a fee burn written into the chain, where every transaction destroys a little. BTT works differently: its own chain burns nothing, and the shrink comes from a company decision to turn service revenue into quarterly buybacks. That puts BTT closer to exchange tokens and app tokens that buy back with earnings than to chains with a built-in burn. Several other TRON-group tokens also run revenue buybacks and burns, so BTT now follows a pattern already common around it.

Compared with tokens that still unlock large team and investor shares each month, BTT’s supply side is unusually quiet: the release table leaves under 0.31% of supply to come, in three small yearly steps, and nothing is printed for staking. The trade-off is that the buy side depends on revenue and on the team keeping its promise: there is no contract that forces a burn, so each quarter’s size can rise, fall or stop.

What to watch in the next 90 days

Mid-January 2027: the burn for October to December 2026 is due; its size will show whether the $7.6M first round was typical.

The release wallet (3,938.9B BTT): any move would most likely be the 2027 batch of 984.7B or the late 2026 batch.

Staking pay on BitTorrent Chain: a change to the 6.8% rate would change how fast coins move from the staking pot to stakers, though not total supply.

Team-linked wallets: large moves from the 112.6T and 52.46T wallets would not add supply, but they could add selling.

Summary

BitTorrent (BTT) has a fixed 990 trillion supply with no minting, and from October 2026 it shrinks through a quarterly buyback paid by service revenue. The first burn removed 21,621.6B BTT, taking supply down 2.24% in 90 days, and the next burn in mid-January points to about 2.22% less again. Only about 2.95T BTT is left to release, in yearly steps to 2029. The key risk is that the burn depends on revenue and on the team’s choice, not on code, so a smaller or skipped round would leave BTT close to flat.
