BNB Inflation Analysis · October 2026 · Supply was shrinking · trend softening
BNB supply shrank by 1.26% in the last 90 days, and nothing was added to it. BNB Chain creates no new BNB at all: validators are paid only from gas fees. On the other side, the 37th quarterly Auto-Burn destroyed 1,646,196 BNB on Oct 19 2026, and the BEP-95 gas-fee burn destroyed another 7,626 BNB, for 1.65M BNB removed from a float of 131.51M BNB. The market-wide supply reading agrees at -1.24%. For the next 90 days we count only the fee burn, about -0.01%, because the 38th Auto-Burn has no date yet and may land just after the window. The burns stop when supply reaches 100M BNB.
The verdict, in one paragraph
Over the 90 days to Oct 20 2026, BNB had 0 BNB of sell pressure and 1,653,822 BNB of buy pressure, a net change of -1.26% of circulating supply. The independent supply monitor reads -1.24% for the same 90 days, a gap of 0.02 percentage points, so the two readings agree and no warning flag is shown. The projected next 90 days is -0.01%: the gas-fee burn keeps running every block, while the next quarterly burn is expected in mid to late January 2027, around the edge of the window. BNB is a fixed-supply coin that shrinks in quarterly steps: no issuance, one large burn per quarter, and a small burn in every block.
Sell pressure: where new BNB comes from
Protocol inflation is 0. BNB Smart Chain has no block reward: validators and the people who stake with them are paid from the gas fees users already pay in BNB. On-chain, no BNB was minted in the window: every BNB that left the supply went to the burn address.
Vesting unlocks are 0. BNB launched in July 2017, and the team and early investor shares finished unlocking years ago. Circulating supply equals total supply today, so there is no locked BNB left to release.
Foundation and unscheduled unlocks are 0. The wallets that could sell, described below, are all counted as circulating already, so a sale from them would change who holds BNB but not how much BNB exists.
Long-term locked or bankruptcy supply is 0. No court estate or trustee holds BNB for later release. The listed companies and the US spot fund that hold BNB bought their coins in the market.
Buy pressure: where new BNB goes
The quarterly Auto-Burn is the big one: 1,646,196 BNB sent to the burn address on Oct 19 2026, worth about $1.2 billion at the time. The size is set by a public rule based on the number of blocks in the quarter and the BNB price, so the burn gets smaller when BNB is expensive and larger when it is cheap. The coins come from a reserve wallet, which dropped by exactly the burned amount. The last three quarterly burns were 1.57M BNB in April, 1.62M BNB in July and 1.65M BNB in October 2026.
The protocol fee burn, set by BEP-95, destroys 10% of the gas fees in every block. That share did not change in the window. Over 90 days it came to 7,626 BNB, about 85 BNB a day, including a few small amounts people sent to the burn address themselves. Gas on BNB Chain is cheap, so this burn is small next to the quarterly one, but it never stops; the next 90 days use the same rate.
There is no programmatic buyback (0): nobody buys BNB on the market to destroy it, because the Auto-Burn uses reserve coins. Foundation buying is 0. New long-term locks are 0: staked BNB still counts as circulating, so staking moves coins without taking them out of the float.
Foundation and overhang
We track two large wallets. The first is the Auto-Burn reserve, which pays for each quarterly burn. It held 5.25M BNB before the Oct 19 2026 burn and holds 3.61M BNB now; the burn was its only outgoing transfer in the window. At the current pace that is enough for about two more quarterly burns. The second is the old bridge contract left over from the merger of BNB Beacon Chain into BNB Smart Chain. It holds 25.97M BNB for people who have not yet claimed their old balances, and it paid out 4,161 BNB to claimants in the window. Because both already count as circulating, their moves add nothing to supply today. If either balance falls between rebuilds for a reason other than a burn or a claim, that outflow goes into the Foundation and unscheduled unlocks row at the next rebuild.
How BNB compares to other exchange-linked tokens
Most exchange tokens shrink through buybacks: the exchange spends part of its profit to buy coins on the market and burn them. BNB works differently. Its quarterly Auto-Burn is set by a public rule tied to block count and price, not to exchange profit, and it ends at a hard floor of 100M BNB. Against an issuing chain like Ethereum, where new ETH goes to validators every day and the fee burn removes only part of it, BNB has no issuance to offset: every burn is a straight cut to supply.
BNB also stands apart from capped proof-of-work coins such as Bitcoin, which still add new coins every block until the cap is reached. BNB already exists in full; its supply only moves down. Since BNB started, about 68.5M BNB have been burned from the original 200M, and about 31.5M BNB still need to be burned before the Auto-Burn stops. After that, only the gas-fee burn would keep removing BNB.
What to watch in the next 90 days
The 38th quarterly Auto-Burn, for the quarter ending Dec 31 2026, is running at about 1.52M BNB. Past January burns came on Jan 17 2024, Jan 23 2025 and Jan 15 2026; if this one lands by Jan 18 2027 it falls inside the next 90 days and would push the projection to about -1.16%.
The Auto-Burn reserve holds 3.61M BNB. A top-up from another wallet, or any outgoing transfer that is not a burn, would be the first sign of a change in how the burn is funded.
BNB Chain plans a new base-layer chain for early 2027 that will use BNB as its gas coin, with no new token. Nothing announced so far changes supply, the 10% fee burn or the Auto-Burn; any proposal that does would move this reading.
The gas-fee burn itself: it ran at about 85 BNB a day over the window but near 58 BNB a day in the last week. Busier or quieter blocks move this small number up or down.
Summary
BNB supply fell 1.26% over the 90 days to Oct 20 2026, with no new BNB created and 1.65M BNB burned, almost all of it in the 37th quarterly Auto-Burn on Oct 19 2026. The independent supply reading of -1.24% agrees. BNB is a fixed-supply coin that shrinks in quarterly steps toward a 100M BNB floor, with a small gas-fee burn in every block. The main open question is timing: the next burn of about 1.52M BNB has no date yet, so the next 90 days show only -0.01% until it is scheduled.
