➜ Start with the Aave coin page for the short answer (should you buy AAVE?) and its price drivers: mrnasdog.com/research/aave

AAVE supply is roughly steady. No new AAVE is ever minted: all 16M AAVE already exist, and the only coins not yet circulating sit in the Aave DAO’s Ecosystem Reserve. Between Jul 25 and Oct 23 2026 that reserve paid out 18,977 AAVE to stakers and three payment streams, while no buyback or burn ran, so circulating AAVE grew +0.12% in 90 days. We expect about +0.13% in the next 90 days. Other trackers read +0.11%, the same picture.

The verdict, in one paragraph

Our 90-day reading for AAVE is +0.12% net new supply: 18,977 AAVE came out of the Ecosystem Reserve and 0 AAVE was bought back or burned, on a circulating base of 15.44M AAVE. Other trackers show +0.11% for the same stretch, a difference of 0.01 points, so there is no conflict to flag and no warning chip on the page. For the next 90 days we project 20,178 AAVE out of the reserve, or +0.13%. The one-line label: AAVE is a pre-minted token that leaks slowly from a DAO reserve, with its buyback switched off.

Sell pressure: where new AAVE comes from

The biggest source is staking rewards. Aave pays people who stake AAVE in its Safety Module 150 AAVE a day, and those rewards are not newly minted; they are paid out of the Ecosystem Reserve whenever a staker claims. In the last 90 days stakers claimed 13,089 AAVE, close to the 13,500 AAVE that 150 a day adds up to. The reward rate did not change during the window, so we carry the same 13,089 AAVE forward. Stakers are still owed a large unclaimed backlog, and the DAO tops up the amount the reserve may pay each quarter, so claims can run above 150 AAVE a day for a while.

The second source is vesting, in the form of three payment streams out of the same reserve. Aave Labs receives 75,000 AAVE spread evenly over four years, from Apr 13 2026 to Apr 12 2030, which was part of the “Aave Will Win” funding deal passed in April 2026. Two service providers each receive 5,000 AAVE over one year. In these 90 days the holders drew 5,888 AAVE from the streams; one of the two smaller streams has not been drawn at all yet. On schedule, about 7,089 AAVE more falls due in the next 90 days, and that is what we count. There is no cliff: the streams pay out second by second.

Foundation and unscheduled unlocks add 0: the rest of the reserve has no release date, and no other AAVE sits outside circulation. Long-term locked or bankruptcy supply is also 0, because no estate or court holds AAVE waiting to be released.

Buy pressure: where new AAVE goes

The programmatic buyback booked 0. The Aave DAO started buying AAVE on the open market in April 2025 and gathered 240,502 AAVE, but it paused the buyback on Apr 19 2026 after a bridge exploit hit one of the assets in its markets, and that pile did not move at all in these 90 days. On Oct 22 2026 the founder said a new plan, Aavenomics 3.0, will restart the buyback and send part of the bought coins to a burn address and part to staking rewards. No proposal, start date or size exists yet, so the next 90 days also show 0.

The protocol fee burn is 0: AAVE has no burn today, total supply read exactly 16M at both ends of the window, and the dead address holds less than 1 AAVE. Foundation buying is 0, since no team or foundation buys AAVE outside the paused DAO program. New long-term locks are also 0: staked AAVE grew from about 2.26M to 2.48M, but staked coins still count as circulating, so the growing stake removes nothing from the count.

Foundation and overhang

The Ecosystem Reserve is the main overhang. It holds 563,392 AAVE, about 3.5% of all AAVE, and it is controlled by Aave governance. Roughly 74,600 AAVE of it is already promised to the three streams, and the rest funds staking rewards at 150 AAVE a day with no other release scheduled. At today’s pace the reserve would last many years. We read its balance on-chain every rebuild.

Inside circulation, the DAO also controls the 240,502 AAVE it bought back, held in a committee wallet, and about 6,592 AAVE in its treasury. The Aave Labs stream wallet holds 8,680 AAVE, everything it has drawn so far. Because all of these already count as circulating, a sale from them would add selling pressure but no new supply. If the reserve’s balance falls faster than staking rewards and the streams explain between our checks, the extra outflow enters the foundation and unscheduled unlocks row at the next check.

How AAVE compares to other DeFi governance tokens

AAVE sits at the quiet end of DeFi tokens. Its supply was set at 16M when the token replaced LEND in 2020, and nothing has been minted since; new circulating coins only come from one DAO reserve. Tokens such as Curve’s CRV work the other way: new CRV is still minted to liquidity providers on a schedule, so their float grows every day by design and far faster than AAVE’s.

On the buy side, AAVE is weaker than tokens with a working buyback. Sky, the token of the former Maker, uses protocol surplus to buy its own token back, and several newer DeFi tokens send fees straight into buybacks or burns. Aave still earns real fees, but since the April exploit it has kept that revenue in its treasury instead of buying its token, so its buy side is empty today. If Aavenomics 3.0 brings back the buyback with a burn, AAVE would move from slowly growing supply to possibly shrinking supply, since the reserve leaks only about 0.12% a quarter.

Compared with tokens that still have large team and investor unlocks ahead, AAVE has no cliff at all: its biggest vesting item is a 75,000 AAVE stream, about 0.5% of supply, spread over four years.

What to watch in the next 90 days

First, the Aavenomics 3.0 proposal. The founder announced it on Oct 22 2026; once it reaches a vote with a date and a size, a restarted buyback that burns coins would become the first real buy pressure on AAVE since Apr 19 2026.

Second, the quarterly top-up of the staking reward allowance, expected around December 2026. A large unclaimed backlog is still owed to stakers, and a bigger top-up could let claims run well above 150 AAVE a day.

Third, any vote that changes the 150 AAVE a day staking reward, which has been cut several times since 2025.

Fourth, the stream that has not been drawn: about 1,600 AAVE has built up in it, and it can be withdrawn at any time, which would make the next 90 days a little heavier than the schedule alone.

Summary

AAVE supply grew +0.12% in the 90 days to Oct 23 2026 and should grow about +0.13% in the next 90 days, a roughly steady reading. No AAVE is minted; the new circulating coins are staking rewards and three payment streams paid from the Aave DAO’s 563,392 AAVE Ecosystem Reserve, against no buyback and no burn. The main risk to that reading is a larger payout from the reserve, and the main upside is a restarted buyback with a burn. Total supply stays at 16M AAVE, so as long as nothing new is minted, the reserve is the ceiling on how much new supply can reach the market.
